This year Working Environments Furniture has started working With Knoll, the manufacturer with some truly iconic products. Their portfolio includes designers such as Florence Knoll, Harry Bertoia, Barber Osgerby, Ludwig Mies van Der Rohe and Eero Saarinen to name but a few.
For over 70 years, Knoll has used modern design to connect people with their work, their lives and their world. Since their founding in 1938, they have explored the power of modern design to create compelling environments that inspire and endure. Their founders, Hans and Florence Knoll, embraced the creative genius at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and the Bauhaus School to create new types of furniture; their approach, where craftsmanship joined with technology through the use of design, anchors their perspective and shapes the values we live by today. Their commitment to innovation and their landmark collaborations with the world’s most celebrated architects and designers have yielded an extensive portfolio of iconic furniture for lounge and reception areas, workplace and meeting spaces, dining and entertaining areas, museums and retail spaces.
From formal reception spaces to occasional seating areas – for connecting, socialising, reading, problem-solving or quiet repose – the KnollStudio® portfolio of iconic lounge chairs and sofa collections combine a Modernist aesthetic with residential appeal. This point of view, nurtured by Florence Knoll, has become the trademark of Knoll design. From classics designed by the Bauhaus masters to collaborations with upcoming architects and designers, KnollStudio offers artistry and superlative comfort for the corporate waiting area, the library, hotel lobby or any space where you are looking to create a unique, stylish ambience.
WE have recently completed a project in Milton Keynes using the Platner range and some of the Barcelona product to provide a very high end shopping experience in the Deer Walk area. The result is striking giving a truly luxurious feel to the space and the shopping experience.
From their large selection of classics and new products its difficult to pick favourites but in any such list you must include the Platner chair, Bertoia seating, Florence Knoll sofa's the Jehs+Laub lounge chair and of course the Pilot chair. For more recent additions you must consider the "relaxed" versions of some classics and the Washington Skeleton aluminium side chair and the Architecture range. Although the perception of Knoll has always been very high quality, often associated with high cost, the quality of the Knoll products give great value for money as well as a pleasant surprise on the price, particularly with some of the relaxed versions of products.
